Some medicinal uses of tomatoes

Posted on 1 December, 2014 at 3:25

Hello everyone.  Tomatoes originated from South to Central America, possibly the Andes region, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia through to Mexico.  Tomatoes are well known throughout the world.  The name tomatoe was derived from the Aztec 'xitomat"', meaning 'plump fruit'.  Tomatoes are rich in Vitamin A, C and K.  Tomatoes have a low GI and contain vitually no fat and little protein.  Tomatoes are a powerful antioxidant.  There is strong evidence that tomatoes treat and prevent cancer.  Tomatoes antioxidant properties reduce damage caused by UV light to the skin eg. sunburn.  Tomatoes can also reduce cardiovascular diease.  Tomatoes also have anti-inflammatory properties.  Tomatoe leaves can be used as a natural insecticide.   Tomatoe plants are not frost hardy.  Tomatoes need warm/hot sunny days to grow and fruit well.  Remember, it is important to note: this information only applies to non hybrid, open pollinated seed or heirloom seed varieties.  Tomatoes that are massed produced, do not contain the healing benefits as the seed/plant has been changed.  So, remember to buy your non hybrid, open pollinated seed or heirloom seed and grow yourself.  Love, Peace and harmony to you all.  Lesley. follow us at
