Medicinal uses of rocket

Posted on 18 November, 2014 at 19:10

Hello everyone. Rocket has a fresh, peppery watercress like flavour. Rocket probably originated from the Mediterranean. It has been harvested from the wild for a long time. Rocket has been cultivated for about the last 400 years in countries in Europe and countries in the Middle East. The leaves are rich in antioxidants. The leaves contain good quantities of vitamin C, fibre and carotenoids. The seeds are rich in oil. The seeds have a very good ratio of 2:1 of omega 3 to omega 6 . The seeds are also rich in vitamin E. Which makes the oil more resistant to becoming rancid. The oil can be used in salads as a dressing and can be used in cooking. The oil also has been used to fuel lamps and to soften and smooth skin. The flower heads are also edible. In subtropical areas, put your seeds in April and May. Rocket likes the cooler weather. Remember to buy your non hybrid seed that has been open pollinated. Happy gardening. By Lesley follow us at or mobile at
